Britain In 2013


Every year, the ESRC’s annual trends report ‘Britain In…’ points the way for UK PLC. Available on newsstands across the UK and Europe, this glossy, perfect-bound 124-page coffee table magazine is targeted at senior professionals, academics and informed general readers.

 The Brief

 In a Europe-wide competitive tender, ESRC challenged agencies to sharpen the annual’s editorial appeal and deliver a cost-effective distribution strategy. We redesigned the title, introducing a clearer structure and an at-a-glance infographics section.  We also used our expertise in newsstand publishing to distribute the magazine more widely, promote it better and improve sales efficiency.

 The Final Analysis

  • An average 34,000 sales on the newsstand (priced at £5.50) delivering substantial revenue to ESRC
  • Sales efficiency increased to over 50%
  • Copy sales increased year-on-year by 8%.
