Careers & Development
Our business is developing and evolving all the time. So we believe that some of the best learning takes place by doing your job and trying out new things. Therefore there are loads of opportunities to develop yourself and your career on a regular basis. We encourage people to talk to their manager about how they’re doing, how to build their strengths and what they need to develop. And we have an appraisal system which is focused on developing skills and thinking about future career plans.
In addition, we want people to sharpen their skills and develop new ones, and so we have programmes which help people build specific expertise:
We know that everyone was new to the business once so we want all our new people to have the best joining experience possible. During your first three months, you’ll get a view of how we work and how we’re organised by meeting people from across the business. We think in this way, you’ll get a full picture of how your job fits into your team and the company – enabling you to better understand how we all work together. There’ll be a mix of meetings, on the job training, the chance to meet other newbies as well more formal training. We want to support you in those first few months to make sure you have a great start and are set up for a brilliant career with us.
Developing an inspirational and dynamic leadership culture is really important to us. We think the best leaders develop the best people and teams and so we train all our managers in our Integral Leadership Programme.
This is a ten day course over six months run by industry leading coaches who help you understand your strengths and play to them. You’ll develop a deep understanding of emotional and social intelligence, rapport, coaching and mentoring, presentations, influencing, negotiation, motivation, creativity, meetings skills and business processes. These are core life skills so our people enjoy the benefits in their personal lives too. And you’ll work with people from across the business, so it’s a chance to learn from people you might not normally work with too and build a network to help you when back in the office.
We have a dedicated partner who develops our sales people with specific coaching and training in negotiation, presentation, influencing, customer service and managing client and agency relationships.
We strive to be a world-class special interest content company with a multi-platform business model. As a result, we are investing in digital and cross-media developments for our brands and digital training for our people so that we can create innovative digital content.
We’re always on the look out for rising stars and if you’re thinking of trying out a career in media, we offer work placements in both our London and Bristol offices for talented students who want an insight in working in a dynamic, multi-platform content business.
We offer more than 2,000 days work experience and placements generally last for one or two weeks. In particular, we offer editorial placements to those who are doing a postgraduate journalism course – opportunities in other departments may also be available.
