Accessibility compliance – current status

We have assessed our compliance with the relevant requirements under the =Act , as well as the recommendations set out in the latest version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”).

Which aspects of the Immediate Platforms are accessible?

We want as many people as possible to be able to use the Immediate Platforms and we are dedicated to making the Immediate Platforms as accessible as possible.

We have already made the following accessibility changes to the Immediate Platforms in order to ensure compliance with the Act:

  • Skip navigation: Keyboard-only users can use the relevant navigation keys to easily skip content that is repeated on multiple web pages and go directly to the main content of a web page. This has been completed in respect of key customer facing pages on the Immediate Platforms, and work is ongoing in respect of other ancillary pages on the Immediate Platforms.
  • No keyboard trap: Work is ongoing to ensure that keyboard-only users can navigate through all content without becoming trapped and progress has been made in this key area. There remains an ongoing issue in respect of a limited amount of paywalled content which Immediate are working on to remedy.
  • Meaningful sequence: Users can use assistive technology to find alternative ways to present content, without losing the reading order needed to understand the meaning.
  • Page Titled: The pages of the Immediate Platforms have a descriptive page title (i.e. a description of a topic or purpose) which can help users (including those using audio assistive technologies) to identify and distinguish between different pages.
  • Language of page: Users of assistive technology (e.g. screen readers) are able to determine the language of a page.
  • Orientation: Content is not locked to either a portrait or landscape presentation, which is helpful for users who may have devices mounted or in a fixed orientation.
  • Text spacing: Users are able to adjust text spacing to make it easier to read content.
  • Multiple ways: Users are able to access content in multiple ways. For example – different search options and / or box and category lists.
  • Link styling: Colour is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response or distinguishing a visual element.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

The Immediate Platforms are designed to be compatible with the following most used assistive technologies:

  • the latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari browsers; and
  • in combination with the latest versions of NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack.

Which aspects of the Immediate Platforms are not fully accessible?

We are working to continually improve and enhance the Immediate Platforms for users with accessibility requirements. However, we are aware that the following features do not meet the relevant accessibility requirements:

  1. Customised feature on www.radiotimes.com

Failure name: Users may be unaware of content changes on https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/tv-listings/

This fails WCAG criteria:

  • WCAG 3.2.1 On Focus
  • WCAG 3.2.2 On Input
  • WCAG 4.1.3 Status Messages
  1. Video and audio:

Failure name(s):

  • Mouse Dependent Areas
  • Video element missing fallback or alternative content
  • Video and Audio missing Text Alternatives
  • Video missing Audio Description
  • Video Controls Inaccessible via Screen Reader

These fail WCAG criteria:

  • WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard
  • WCAG 1.2.1 Audio/Video only
  • WCAG 1.2.4 Captions
  • WCAG 1.2.3 Audio description or media alt
  • WCAG 1.4.2 Audio control

We are reviewing the issues listed above on an ongoing basis and will seek to ensure that rectification takes place as soon as is reasonably practicable.

Content not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some of our content does not meet accessibility standards set out in the  Act.

For example:

  • Content published on Immediate’s Platforms prior to 28 June 2025;
  • Content on Immediate’s Platforms which has been archived, and will not be edited after 28 June 2025;
  • Content from Immediate’s Platforms which is managed, editorially controlled or published by third parties (e.g. content which appears on third party websites and platforms like Apple News).
