About the role
Join our dynamic team as Performance Marketing & Acquisition Director for an industry-leading media business driving some of the largest subscription businesses in the UK.
In this strategically important role, you will be responsible for overseeing the Performance Marketing and Acquisition teams, setting strategy, fostering innovation, and implementing industry-leading best practices to drive customer demand for our award winning digital and print subscription products, alongside delivering highly engaged audiences for advertisers.
This highly collaborative role sits in a matrix organisation where you will partner with colleagues in different teams including Brand Owners, Advertising, Content and Product & Tech.
As a Performance Marketing & Acquisition Director, you will:
Strategic Leadership
- Set the standard for delivering market leading best practice driving customer demand, for paid subscriptions, and for advertising partners, developing an award-winning team.
- Set the strategy to invest for maximum ROI, creating an innovative and agile trading culture that reacts to changes in market behaviour and stays ahead of the curve, for paid and owned marketing across online and offline channels.
- Overall responsibility for marketing planning, developing a highly effective promotional calendar and delivery engine, incorporating talent and content tent poles.
- Champion our shift towards a new customer centric approach, and data-driven audience segmentation, creating efficiencies and finding synergies.
Best in Class Digital Marketing Driving Customer Demand
- Create a culture of excellence for buying paid marketing, staying on top of market trends and regularly reviewing spend/ ROI.
- Develop winning propositions and creative concepts that deliver highly engaged audiences.
- Foster a test and learn culture that is focused on bigger, better results driven marketing campaigns.
- Leverage and optimise across paid channels for both customer acquisition and commercial campaign
- Work with the ads team to integrate brand partners into social content without compromising authenticity ensuring implementation of sponsored campaigns on time, measure their success, and provide reports.
- Launch creative campaigns that motivate user involvement and promote the brand.
Best in Class Subscriptions Acquisition
- Create a culture of excellence to drive growth acquiring new subscribers to our market leading range of digital and print/ digital bundle products
- Fostering effective matrix ways of working with internal teams (eg creative studio, content and social, PR, brand, P&T, partnerships) and external partners (eg Apple, Google, Meta).
- Find synergies and efficiencies through shared platforms, resources and expertise.
ROI Driven Planning & Execution - Maximising Return on Marketing Investment
- Create a prioritisation approach and operational ways of working that maximise ROI and strategic advantage from campaigns to promote IM subscription products.
- Collaborate with the advertising team to understand commercial briefs and integrate brand partners into paid digital marketing campaigns.
- Deliver compelling customer centric marketing creating high demand and high ROI.
Team Building and Culture
- Build and lead high-performing teams.
- Create a team culture of innovation and testing to constantly improve performance.
- Create and foster a customer centric culture.
Hitting or exceeding KPIs
- Set strategy, shape and lead an operational team to deliver / or exceed against budgeted CPA / ROI targets.
- Set strategy and lead the team to hit or beat subs sign up targets.
- Set strategy and lead the team to deliver acquisition part of set CLV targets (to be defined)
Requirements
- Significant leadership experience driving commercial returns from paid marketing
- Proven track record of successful social media scaling, achieving commercial objectives in partnership with content curation teams
- Digitally focused with proven understanding of maximising ROI from data driven digital advertising platforms
- Successful history developing high performing goal focused acquisitions teams
- Proven track record of managing and mentoring teams, setting performance goals, and optimizing budget spend.
- Understanding of direct-to-consumer and subscription business model.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
