About the role

Are you a football fanatic with a flair for writing? Do you dream of working in the fast-paced world of magazines and digital content? Match of the Day magazine is offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on editorial experience through a 3-month paid internship. This programme is ideal for individuals eager to start a career in media and publishing, offering insight into every aspect of magazine production—from feature writing to social media and planning.

This internship provides a well-rounded, immersive experience where you’ll contribute to both the print magazine and digital platforms, while also getting behind-the-scenes exposure to departments such as production, buying, publishing, and distribution.

As a Match of the Day Intern, you will;

  • Attend regular planning meetings to contribute ideas and gain insight into the editorial process
  • Assist in organising content opportunities, such as interviews with footballers and influencers
  • Shadow experienced writers and editors to understand how magazine content is produced
  • Attend football-related events, player interviews, and press conferences where possible
  • Assist in running magazine competitions, liaising with marketing and legal teams
  • Gain an understanding of the full magazine production cycle, from idea generation to final print
  • Sit in on sessions with production, buying, and publishing teams to get insight into how a magazine is managed beyond editorial
  • Assist with handling reader queries via email and social media
  • Support the team with general administrative duties, including organising schedules and liaising with external partners

What you’ll learn

  • Practical editorial and publishing experience
  • Exposure to high-profile media events

  • Highly organised, proactive, and curious
  • A collaborative team player eager to learn
  • Comfortable navigating social media platforms and online tools

Our internships are designed to provide valuable insight into media and are aimed at people from backgrounds that are often underrepresented in our industry. We welcome applicants whose circumstances may have made it harder to access opportunities like this, whether due to financial, social, or other barriers.
